Fresh Green Smoothie - Alternative Holistic Medicine Keller TX

With summer slowly coming to a close, the farmers markets and CSA's are offering the perfect mix of both summer and fall vegetables! Okra is still going strong, but winter squash like butternut and spaghetti and starting to make their early appearances.

It's the perfect time to break out the blender and enjoy a fresh green smoothie with both summer and fall fruits and veggies!

Though we're huge advocates of sitting down to a balanced meal, we can't deny our love for the occasional juice or smoothie here or there. Not only is it a great way to get extra nutrients, but it can also stand in as a fun treat every now and then.

TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE SMOOTHIE PACKS THE RIGHT NUTRIENT PUNCH WHILE STILL BEING DELICIOUS, WE RECOMMEND FOLLOWING THESE SMOOTHIE BUILDING BASICS!

  • PROTEIN. Adding a protein powder like collagen protein is a great way to help keep you satisfied.

 

  • FAT. It's important to always add a fat source to a smoothie! This helps regulate your blood sugar and keep you fuller longer. We love adding coconut oil, or avocado for a rich, creamy texture!

 

  • LEAFY VEGGIES. Leafy green vegetables like kale, spinach, and dandelion greens are packed with phytonutrients and can easily disappear in a big smoothie! 

 

  • LOW SUGAR FRUIT. Enjoying lower sugar fruits like berries, pears, or only half of a green banana helps to keep your blood sugar from spiking while still adding in some sweet flavor!

This green smoothie recipe features all of the smoothie building basics along with summer veggies like dandelion greens and cucumber along with fall fruits like pear! 

FRESH GREEN SMOOTHIE RECIPE

 

Ingredients

  • 4-5 dandelion green leaves, washed and stemmed
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 1 medium pear
  • 1/2 medium avocado
  • 2 scoops collagen protein powder
  • 3-4 ice cubes
  • 1-1.5 cups water or dairy free milk

Instructions

  1. Add the greens, liquid, and ice to a high speed blend and blend on high until combined.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth.
  3. Serve and enjoy!!
