JAkE DunCan, PA-C

Functional Medicine Provider and Owner

I am Jake Duncan, certified physician assistant.  I have a growing passion for learning how to better address root causes of medical conditions and focus on prevention instead of waiting until symptoms present.  My journey is like most.  With digestive and skin concerns most of my childhood, I sought out many medical practitioners who did large expensive workups and had nothing more to offer than Nexium (and I didn't even have heartburn or acid reflux).  Not once did anyone ask me about my lifestyle, stress levels, sleep, or dietary intake.  Come to find out years later, through self study and trial and error, that I had developed several foods sensitivities that were behind my years of digestive distress and inflamed skin.  This was the beginning of realizing that we can provide amazing healing and prevent damage through the food that we consume on a daily basis.  This sounds trivial and obvious but how little do we really consider food as our most important medicine?  Or our most deadly poison?  With an amazing increase in autoimmune disease, diabetes, heart disease, autism, mood disorders, and strokes in our culture, we have to ask the questions: "Why? What has changed?"  The most obvious answers are that we are bathed daily in toxins in our environment and our foods are mostly no longer even really food at all.  The average American lives on mostly processed food, genetically modified diets full of hormones, antibiotics and pesticides, and we wonder why we are all sick.  The problem is that we have also trained ourselves to want a quick fix for everything: a pill, a self-help book, a new marriage, a new job -- instead of taking the time to sow good seeds that produce good fruit and lasting change.  This is what I seek to change in my own heart and in one patient at a time.  Those who have grasped this vision and started their own self-education process are becoming their own biggest advocate and are reaping daily improvements in their health.  They've started to see their medical provider as a health consultant instead of someone who has a pill for every trouble that affects them.  I have been blessed to work with two physicians who also desire to think outside of the box and are continued learners as well.  Any good physician will never stop learning and will never settle to treat every patient in a cookie-cutter fashion.  I hope this website and my wife's growing nutritional knowledge will be a blessing to you as you seek to steward your life better each day.  We only have one life to live.

My foundation in medical training was traditional western medicine and I continue to learn pearls of wisdom as I do my continued education in this area.  However, my passion and main focus with my continued studies is in the realm of Functional Medicine which seeks to find root causes of symptoms rather than just addressing the symptoms.  My main mentor in this area is highly respected in the realm of Functional Medicine.  Dr. Dan Kalish has now been training practitioners in the lab-based healing protocols he learned from his mentors over the past 20 yrs.  After practicing functional medicine for over a decade, he started to develop a very stream-lined approach that he now teaches to practitioners like myself.  It is highly effective due to addressing the body systems in the order in which they tend to dysfunction.  This can be life-changing, but it is not a quick-fix.  It will take perseverance and hard work for patients to heal from the damage potentially done over several years to decades.

Lillie Duncan

Functional Nutritionist and Owner

I am Lillie.  My husband and I have a deep burden for those who are lost and wandering in their search for good health and even more so for those who are slowly adding to their bad health and don't know it.  Most of our culture is there; sadly we have been there too.  There came a time for me where I felt worse than I had ever felt before; everything felt off.  I was losing my hair in waves, my stomach was constantly a mess, I was holding on to extra weight, and I had never been so tired in my entire life.  These are just a few of the symptoms that I struggled with most, but they were enough for Jake and I to realize something was not right.  Little did I know my thyroid was off and I had a significant genetic mutation.  This is where our journey to health took off.  My husband researched day and night for me and encouraged me to not stop researching too.  He explained to me that I had to take control of my own health by taking the first step and educate myself.  Such powerful encouragement.  At the time, it felt a little overwhelming, but in hindsight truth is what I needed to hear.  He lovingly held my hand and saw me to good health.  This is the healthiest I have ever felt in my entire life due to a slow and steady process of taking out things that were detrimental and adding in foods and lifestyle practices that were healing.  My journey did not stop there.  I finished my Holistic Nutrition Certification through Holistic Nutrition Labs in 2016.  I have and continue to study under the best Functional Nutrition gurus out there (Andrea Nakayama) so that I can help others through this journey as well.  Please continue to use our site as an educational tool and let us know if one day we can help you along your journey to health.

KIM WILLIAMSON, PA-C

FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE PROVIDER

I am Kim Williamson, certified physician assistant.  Since I was a child, I have always wanted to be in medicine.  It is the healer nature in me and I could not imagine doing anything else.  Gratefully, I have been so blessed and I have been able to live that dream.  Prior to joining here, I had been practicing as a physician assistant in primary care for over nine years and in the clinical setting for about fifteen years.  I turned towards functional medicine years ago when I myself had health issues.  I struggled with extreme fatigue, digestive disturbances, hormonal imbalances, joint pains, and skin issues, among other things.  I have a benign brain tumor that was mostly removed surgically years ago, but a small piece of it remains.  Praise Jesus that it has been stable!  I also have an autoimmune disease that I have been able to fight with food as my medicine, as well as natural and holistic therapies.  My own health journey has given me so much knowledge in how we can take control of our health and use what God has gifted us to heal our bodies.  As I have gone through my challenges and victories in my health, I have felt called by God to share what I have learned in my own path towards healing.  For this reason, my hope is to use this passion of mine as an opportunity to share my knowledge and resources to live a healthier lifestyle and to help others restore their own health.  I am nowhere near perfect as I stumble and fall too. Thus, I want to use this community here to not only keep myself accountable, but encourage others as well.  So, if I can help guide, give support, bring confidence or hope to someone, then I can feel like I am living part of my purpose.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

Stephanie Hufford

Functional Nutritionist

I am Stephanie.  I have always loved learning about health and wanted to major in nutrition in college.  I thought it would be a waste of my time though since I didn’t want to work in a clinic or hospital.  So I decided teaching was a better option.  However, God had a much different plan and started preparing me to study nutrition by allowing my own health to decline.  During college, my stomach problems worsened and I figured out some “safe foods” that didn’t make me too sick.  After college, my symptoms got worse.  My weight continued to fluctuate drastically, I couldn’t eat most foods without pain, I was fatigued, and extremely confused why my body was falling apart.  I continued to see various doctors who always told me I was completely healthy and not to worry about it.  While I was pregnant with our first child, my sister was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease, Hashimoto's, and she encouraged me to be tested as well.  Eight weeks after our daughter was born, I was also diagnosed with Hashimoto's and several severe food sensitivities.  Although I was sad to have a life-changing diagnosis, it gave me hope to know what was wrong and that I could possibly feel better again.  Over the past several years I have continued to research and try to be an advocate for my health.  It hasn’t been an easy journey, but I know that I feel better now than I ever have.  And most importantly, I know that our family is healthier, able to enjoy life, and serve others more as a result of our lifestyle changes together.

I absolutely love to share what I have learned with others in order to help them find health and to live better lives as well.  More than anything, I love sharing that there is hope and to encourage people to not give up on the life that God has blessed each of us with.  It might take time and a lot of researching, but it is worth it to feel alive again!

I never imagined that God would bring my desire to be a nutritionist full circle and allow me to have this opportunity, but I am so incredibly grateful and look forward to serving and helping others find hope and health.

Brittany Helgoth

FRONt OFFICE MANAGER

I am Brittany.  I have been a military spouse and stay at home mom for the past 11 years.  I had God's guidance to relocate to the Keller area after my husband retired, not having a clue why.  Little did I know that God had big plans for me.  Shortly after we moved here, my husband had a bad accident and we contemplated moving back to Houston to be closer to family.  We went to church and received word from God to stay put, and that God would fill the desires of my heart in the place He has put me.  So we stayed.  At this time, I was still struggling with Lyme disease trying to find treatment and to keep my health up and started to rely on God to help me.  February of 2017, my husband and I were driving and I noticed the Stewarding Life Wellness sign out of the corner of my eye, clear as day.  I went home and looked up the practice and realized God had sent me here to finish my journey to completely heal me.  I called and from that moment on, I was certain that this was the place for me.  As a young child, I always wanted to be in the dental field, but little did I know God had different plans.  After I completed my RDA, I could never find a job in the field of dentistry.  When the position opened at Stewarding Life Wellness, I knew it was where I wanted to be.  When I was offered this position I knew this is the plan God had for me 3 years ago when I received word to stay.  Over the past year, I have come to love the functional medicine aspect of care, realizing it was the answer to so many of my health issues.  I have come to have a passion for natural healing and I hope to go back to school to become a naturopathic doctor in the future.

Let a man regard us in this manner, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. In this case, moreover, it is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy.
